Law graduate bags a National Young Achiever Award after career switch

A law graduate from Solihull has bagged a national Young Achiever Award. The prestigious award was gifted to 23-year-old Sofi Liperis because of her work with Persimmon Homes.

The award, which was presented to the law savvy student by Jeff Fairburn, the Chief Executive of Persimmon Homes, could define the start of Sofi's career.

Taking on a new brief as a land-buyer, she celebrated her successes at a ceremony at Persimmon Homes’ York head office. Having only joined the company, which is based in the South Midlands in September 2014, she has quickly gone from strength to strength. This all came after she refused a training contract with a law firm to follow a career in the construction sector.

“I knew straight away that the technical side of planning and land acquisition was perfect for me,” she explained. “The feeling that I am involved in the creation of something from the very start is really exciting and it gives me that chance to see the other side of property law.”

Sofi gained her degree from Keele University, where she was awarded with her honours in 2014. She intends to continue studies at Birmingham City University, where she will work towards a postgraduate degree in Real Estate Management – all of which will be funded by Persimmon Homes.

David McGing, Sofi’s mentor and the Land Director at Persimmon Homes revealed that Sofi is a “deserving recipient” of the firm’s national Young Business Achiever award before adding that the company is very proud of what she has achieved to date.

“Her law degree gives us a new perspective when dealing with solicitors and we wanted to support her in her ongoing development with her masters,” he explained.
