John Lewis to double graduate jobs in 2011

Published: Friday, 29 October 2010   Category: Retail

John Lewis is planning to double the number of graduate vacancies it offers next year, it was confirmed yesterday (October 28th).

The retail giant has 32 places available for its three-year programme, with 20 joining the retail management scheme and the remaining 12 working in buying or merchandising.

In an interview with People Management, recruitment manager Sophie Milliken revealed that the company is expecting more than 8,000 applications for the positions.

However, she also noted that candidates do not have to possess a minimum degree qualification, but should instead demonstrate people skills and commercial nous.

"We are really open-minded, it's more about work experience and personality and what that candidate has to offer," Ms Milliken told the news provider.

"We're looking for commercial people who can inspire and motivate teams and are not fazed by leading a big group of staff."

According to figures released in 2008, John Lewis employs more than 68,000 people.
