People looking for graduate vacancies may be pleased by recent news that jobs growth went up faster in February than in the previous month.

In February, permanent placements rose at the fastest rate in ten months, while the growth in temporary work billings was at its most rapid since May 2007, according to the February Report on Jobs.

The report, which is released by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and professional services firm KPMG, is a monthly overview of the jobs market.

Kevin Green, chief executive of the REC, said that there are many interesting trends within the employment industry.

"The private sector continues to hire in increasing numbers while the public sector is shedding jobs," he said.

"This is highlighted in the latest Report on Jobs which reports that the nursing, medical and care sectors have significantly declined from a year ago. In comparison, the IT and computing sector saw accelerated growth over the same period."
