Job growth 'falling in business & finance sectors'

News Article Published: Friday, 11 April 2008   Category: Professional & financial services

Continued uncertainty in the finance and business services sector has caused the most cautious hiring statistics in more than a decade, experts have said

The accountancy and finance recruitment specialists Manpower Professional has claimed the fall in hiring confidence in the City "sparks genuine concern" over the implications of the credit crunch, which may be of note to graduates considering a career in the industry.

"We are seeing a significant slowdown in this sector compared to last year and whilst the figures are still positive, the current climate is one of uncertainty," said Paul Robbins, head of Manpower Professional.

However, he went on to say that the impact of the credit crunch does not appear to be affecting areas outside of London as badly.

Many of the major businesses in Manchester, Leeds and the midlands are continuing to seek and recruit the top talent on the market, which is buoying employer confidence, according to Mr Robbins.
