IT professionals 'confident' about job prospects

University-leavers looking for graduate opportunities may wish to pursue a career in the information technology industry, after a new report revealed that employees in this sector are optimistic about their work life.

The research, carried out by recruitment firm Reed, suggests that IT professionals are confident in their career prospects, reports Recruiter magazine.

According to the research, three-quarters of IT professionals believe they will be offered the job they want in the next six month, while the same amount think the sector will get a boost this year as technology improves.

Mark Rhodes, head of marketing at Reed, told the news provider that the computing sector shows on a smaller scale what is happening across the private sector.

"We've seen signs of a slow and steady recovery in almost all areas of the private sector since the start of the year and it seems IT professionals are especially positive," he said.

"With companies gearing up for a return to growth, demand for IT staff is on the rise and, with it, a return to skills shortages across the sector."

Earlier this week, a report from the Office of National Statistics revealed that the private sector grew in the fourth quarter of 2010, compared to the same period last year.
