IT jobs could rise as 'huge' potential of web technology is revealed

Graduate opportunities in the IT sector may be on the up after it was suggested that smaller companies can make more money online by expanding their understanding of web technology.

Phil Kingsland, site director of internet users' educational and advisory portal knowthenet.org.uk, said: "There's tremendous scope for small businesses to increase the proportion of their turnover that comes from the internet."

According to Mr Kingsland, the proportion of larger businesses turnover generated online is "substantially higher" than that of smaller businesses.

He went on to advise small companies to "read around developments in web technology" and increase "their understanding of how they can tie this into their business".

Mr Kingsland told the research and reporting team that this could "make a huge difference" to the online revenues they generate.

The annual value of the UK e-retail market has grown from £0.8 billion in 2000 to £58.8 billion in 2010, IMRG (Interactive Media in Retail Group) announced last week (May 24th 2011).
