Immigration limit could create more graduate vacancies for Brits

Published: Wednesday, 06 April 2011   Category: All Graduate job news

New graduate opportunities for Brits could be made available, as the first of the government's major changes to UK immigration laws comes into effect.

From today (April 6th), an annual limit has been launched to reduce immigration into the UK, meaning that more vacancies should be available for candidates from within the EU.

The government has set the limit at 20,700 people from outside of the EU to work in skilled professions.

On top of this, 1,000 visas will be made available to people of 'exceptional talent', allowing businesses to ensure that Britain's economy remains open to the best and brightest.

Damian Green, immigration minister, said: "The annual limit will not only help reduce immigration down to sustainable levels, but will protect those businesses and institutions that are vital to our economy.

"We have made clear that as the recovery continues, we need employers to look first to people who are out of work and who are already in this country."
