HR firms 'concentrating on developing graduate scheme recruits'

Published: Tuesday, 09 November 2010   Category: All Graduate job news

HR companies are now increasingly looking to provide better training to those who have secured graduate jobs with them, it has been suggested.

The latest Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development survey revealed that 27 per cent of senior HR practitioners are planning to recruit graduate trainees over the next 12 months, compared to seven per cent in the past year.

However, James Callander, managing director of FreshMinds Talent, explained in an interview with Recruiter that the main focus for companies at present is developing their young talent.

"We are seeing a shift away from a defensive HR strategy during the recession to one that is more progressive around building up HR teams in expectation of things getting better," he told the news provider.

"Firms want to give the graduates they have taken on better career progression. Employers will be faced with a problem of retention as well as recruitment going forward."

Meanwhile, GCS Recruitment Specialists is currently helping to prepare HR students at Reading University for their quest to find graduate vacancies when they complete their degrees.
