Hospitality and tourism firms 'good for graduate schemes'

Published: Tuesday, 31 August 2010   Category: Sport, leisure and hospitality

The hospitality and tourism industry is an ideal choice for young Britons looking for graduate trainee jobs, it has been suggested.

Opportunities are currently at a premium in a number of sectors as companies look to consolidate rather than expand in the current economic climate.

However, Brian Wisdom, chief executive of People 1st, explained that major hospitality and tourism employers take training their new recruits very seriously.

"This particular industry will recruit almost 700,000 people in this year so there are some tremendous opportunities there," he said.

"I think the sort of employer that people should be looking for are employers who are actually going to provide training opportunities."

Mr Wisdom added that taking on graduate work experience roles is a perfect way to beef up a CV and increase a candidate's appeal with potential employers.

People 1st is the sector skills council for hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism in the UK.
