Homebase partnership extension could create 200 new jobs

A partnership between home improvement retailer Homebase and a logistics provider has been extended, a move which could create up to 200 new jobs.

The partnership between Homebase and Unipart has been extended for 12 more years and some of the jobs that will be created over the next five years may be graduate vacancies.

Unipart has a distribution centre in Cowley, which will be used by Homebase. The DIY firm will also invest £2.2 million in the 430,000 square foot establishment.

Nigel Basey, head of distribution for Homebase, said that the length of the contract is indicative of the partnership's strength and ambition

"When we started working with Unipart we were looking for a logistics supplier, but over time that has become a true partnership," he said.

"Whilst a contract of this length is almost unique in the retail sector we are confident that it will produce an exciting and productive extension to a partnership which is already exceptionally successful."

Some of Uniport's other clients are Sainsbury's. ASOS and Vodafone.
