Hiring statistics from JobsOutlook report 'very promising'

University-leavers looking for graduate vacancies may wish to search in the private sector, the sector becoming increasingly optimistic about employment.

This months' JobsOutlook survey from Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) revealed that one in four private sector employers are expecting to hire more permanent staff this year.

Also, the job cuts of recent years do not look to continue, 94 per cent of employers said they plan to keep their numbers of permanent staff at the same level as last year, if they do not increase the numbers.

Roger Tweedy, the REC's director of research, said that the statistics shown in the report are "very positive" for jobseekers, including those looking for graduate opportunities.

"Feedback from public sector employers suggests that they are reconfiguring their resourcing in the readiness for growth,” he said.

One public sector company that is intending to increase the number of permanent employees is online retailer Amazon, who earlier this month announced it was to create up to 750 jobs in Scotland.
