Tuesday, 22 July 2008
Those hunting for graduate jobs are looking for positions with high wages that will help them pay off their debts, it has been claimed.
According to the Association of Investment Companies (AIC), many young people have underestimated the level of debt they face and are having to take on high paying roles to make ends meet.
Annabel Brodie-Smith, AIC communications director, said: "It's alarming that few of tomorrow's graduates or their families really comprehend the financial implications of top up fees and both have underestimated the amount of student debt they will face on graduation."
Some graduates' parents are having to make sacrifices such getting rid of their car in order to help pay off their debts, she added.
Yesterday, the Financial Times reported that the City firms are increasingly offering positions to maths graduates.
According to the newspaper, complex number skills are currently in high demand at financial institutions.
