More than a million UK workers will suffer the effects of hay fever in the workplace this summer, a new study has reported.
A poll by Lloyds pharmacy has indicated hay fever-induced hangovers will be experienced by more than 1.3 million employers, reports the Recruiter.
Symptoms including weariness, sluggishness and headaches are endured by sufferers, contributed to by medication taken to combat the condition.
Chris Frost, head of marketing, Lloyds pharmacy, said that anyone who had ever suffered even mild symptoms of hay fever "knew just how frustrating a condition it is".
He added: "Many of the symptoms are indeed similar to a hangover, or even flu.
"This can be tough for sufferers as it holds them back at work and they havent even had a drink to deserve it."
According to HR Zone, the cost of absenteeism to the UK economy is around £13.2 billion per year.
