Graduates to benefit from paid internships in Lincolnshire

Published: Friday, 24 July 2015   Category: All Graduate Jobs News

Lincolnshire graduates can benefit from a 13-week paid internship opportunity with a local business thanks to the Graduate Advancement Programme (GAP).

Getting graduates into work

For the second year running the GAP is offering businesses in north-east Lincolnshire the chance to provide local graduates with a 13-week paid internship and help them find the highly skilled young professionals they seek.

For the interns, they will find their employability and skills boosted by the experience which aims to ensure talented graduates secure a highly skilled job as soon as possible after leaving university.

The programme offers employers help and guidance with recruitment to ensure they find the perfect graduate intern for their roles and even contributes £1,500 towards the costs incurred through wages and training.

The scheme also intends to help local firms attract and retain the best talent and thus further enhance the local business economy.

A huge success for both parties

The pilot project, which took place last year and created 30 internship opportunities for graduates, allowed young professionals to experience a range of roles and responsibilities including marketing co-ordinator, project manager and graduate researcher.

A staggering 80% of graduates who got involved in the paid internships last year were kept on by the firms and gained full-time, permanent roles, which had led to fantastic professional achievements.

Councillor Ray Oxby, leader of North-East Lincolnshire Council, said that this scheme has been a huge success in helping young graduates get into employment.

CR Parrott Consultants Ltd’s Chris Parrott who had provided a graduate with an internship through GAP said that this programme is a great opportunity for both university leavers and businesses.
