Graduates look for 'ethical employers'

Published: Monday, 06 April 2009   Category: Life after graduation | Public sector

Those looking for graduate jobs are searching for employers with good corporate social responsibility (CSR) according to specifier and design group Herman Miller.

Mark Catchlove, director of the furniture manufacturer, has said that environmental challenges will change the workplace in the next 20 years and that a rising number of graduates will be looking for socially-responsible employers.

A presentation was given by Mr Catchlove at the British Institute of Facilities Management conference in Oxford last week, in which he talked about the future of the workplace.

He said: "Without a doubt, it is starting to happen … a lot of graduates in the current climate are looking at companies based on their corporate social responsibility. That is already happening."

A recent survey by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development showed that the public sector has seen a rise in jobs since the recession, whereas the financial sector has seen a significant drop.
