Recent university leavers looking for graduate jobs in banking and finance may be interested to hear that job vacancies in the financial sector have more than doubled in the first quarter of 2010.
Figures from recruitment firm Astbury Marsden show that City vacancies have increased by a staggering 121 per cent since January this year, with 53,000 expected in 2010, which is up by 26 per cent since 2009, and a 21 per cent increase in City staff looking for new jobs.
In all City job vacancies increased to 11,020 positions from the relatively-low figure of 4,970 in the first quarter of 2009.
Mark Cameron, from the firm, said: "With the sharp upsurge in vacancies, caution among employees seems to be coming to an end.
"This surge within the City employment market is likely to continue, albeit at a more moderate pace. 2010 could prove a great year to secure a lucrative new role."
