Mr Schmidt stated that the company experienced a very strong 2010 across the globe and would now be expanding.

He said: "As a result we've decided to make some pretty significant investments, and I'm very happy to announce that we're going to add more than 1,000 employees in Europe this year. We are going to invest in Europe."

According to siliconrepublic.com, Google already employs 5,000 people in Europe, including 1,500 positions in Dublin.
