Graduates could consider IT sector

Published: Tuesday, 13 April 2010   Category: Science, Engineering and IT

Recent university leavers looking for graduate jobs in science, engineering and IT may be interested to hear that a study has shown that permanent IT salaries in the UK have risen by two per cent over the last year.

The average salary for the IT profession now stands at £36,818, according to the in-depth analysis of the IT jobs market that benchmarked 50 different IT positions and monitored over 7,000 advertised jobs from CV Screen.

It also showed that there were more applications per vacancy with a 36 per cent increase in the number of applicants over the same 12-month period.

Matthew Iveson, from the firm, said: "We noticed that in quarter four last year there was a large increase in vacancies, largely caused by pent-up demand from employers who had been sitting tight during the economic slowdown.

"It is clear that companies are more confident than they were 12 months ago and are actively recruiting within their IT departments, particularly in ecommerce where we are seeing continued high demand as companies look to boost their web presence."
