Graduate work experience offers 'great benefits'

Published: Monday, 06 June 2011   Category: Work Experience

A leading employer has suggested that people looking for graduate opportunities should get work experience to ensure they have a good and varied set of skills.

Laurence Hedditch, a partner at the financial services firm Deliotte, told the news provider that people undertaking work experience will find it easier to find graduate roles in the future, while it may also improve their immediate quality of life.

"Companies want to employ people who have put their time to good use and gained transferable skills from their experience to date. Work experience not only improves someone’s employability, for some, it could also fund a summer break," he said.

"Students should be applying for work experience this summer and this could be through a range of different routes."

Deloitte is one of the biggest graduate employers in the country, filling 1,000 roles this year. Only PricewaterhouseCoopers has employed more graduates, with its numbers at 1,200.
