Published: Tuesday, 25 January 2011   Category: Public sector

People looking for graduate vacancies in the private sector may be pleased to know that recruitment is firms' top priority.

A new survey conducted by an employment law information firm has revealed that the highest priority for privately-owned companies is hiring staff.

The top response to XpertHR's poll of priorities was closely followed by improvement of recruitment process in popularity.

Noelle Murphy, employment relations editor at XpertHR, told trade news magazine Personnel Today that firm's in the private sector are trying to employ people for leadership, which suggests that graduate schemes may open up.

"[Recruitment] in the private sector appears to be concentrating once again on core issues such as organisational and leadership development," she said.

The survey also found that human resources departments were pleased with their performances in last year. Out of organisations that measured the effectiveness of their HR function, 69 per cent rated themselves as above average or higher.
