Graduate vacancies 'on the rise' at media organisations

Published: Wednesday, 20 October 2010   Category: Creative Industries: arts and design

Media companies are increasingly offering graduate opportunities in a number of different disciplines, it has been suggested.

Myles Nester, a resourcer at Reed Graduates, claimed that university leavers should now have a better chance of securing a role within the sector than at any point in the past 12 months.

He told the Guardian that the main roles available include trainee graphic designer, PR assistant, account executive, trainee editor, junior website designer and junior copywriter.

"The volume recruitment is gradually coming back, often from companies that skipped a year and are now paying the price with a much heavier workload," he said in an interview with the newspaper.

Mr Hester also advised graduates looking to secure media-related jobs to direct their attention towards small and medium-sized enterprises as they are particular eager to find the country's best young talent.

Last month, Hold the Front Page revealed that three journalism graduates decided to overcome the competitive jobs market by setting up a local news website called 'The Lincolnite'.
