Graduate vacancies may soon be available with a leading pharmaceutical company, after an apprenticeship scheme was launched.

AS Watson - the parent company of Superdrug - announced today (February 1st) that it would be employing around 500 new apprentices, according to the Recruiter magazine.

The apprenticeship programme is open to people who have been employed with the company for over three months, including those in graduate roles.

Jo Mackie, AS Watson's human resources director for the United Kingdom, told the trade news provider that the retail and manufacturing business places a huge importance on apprenticeships.

"In our business we are incredibly aware of the value that apprenticeships bring the business," he said.

"Our Team Academy training programme offers colleagues the confidence and skills they need to expand their learning and further their careers."

The new apprentices are to join the scheme, which is already around 400 people strong, throughout 2011.
