Graduate scheme may be part of Morrisons' recruitment drive

Published: Tuesday, 11 January 2011   Category: Retail

Supermarket chain WM Morrisons is planning to create 6,000 new jobs in the coming year, some of which are likely to come from their graduate scheme.

The retail giant has recently announced that total sales excluding fuel were up by 3.1 per cent in the six weeks leading to January 2nd.

Because of this growth, Morrisons has announced that it will create the new jobs in 2011.

Dalton Philips, Morrisons chief executive, said the jobs will include shop floor roles, new store positions and specialist trainee roles.

"Because of Morrisons expanding business we are in a position to recruit more people and invest in developing their skills, training them to be qualified butchers, bakers and fishmongers as well," he said.

Many of the country's leading supermarkets are creating new jobs to help boost the UK's economy: at the same time as Morrisons, Sainsbury's announced that it would be creating 20,000 over the next three years.
