Graduate scheme hunters given CV and covering letter advice

Britons looking for graduate vacancies have today (August 24th) been given a range of tips for optimising their applications.

With the Association of Graduate Recruiters reporting recently that there are now as many as 70 applicants for every position, a solid CV and covering letter are more important than ever.

A new report in the Express & Star has suggested that candidates should be prepared to send their CVs to plenty of employers, as it normally takes about 25 efforts to land an interview.

Furthermore, the news provider noted that constructing a covering letter properly is a key part of the process, "starting with why you're writing, the position you wish to apply for and your current circumstances".

"It's crucial to highlight the most important or most relevant thing that you think your potential employer needs to know, while you also need to demonstrate some knowledge of the organisation you're hoping to work for," added the report.

"Finally, construct a brief paragraph that bridges your talents with the company's needs or requirements."

Meanwhile, a recent article published by Women24 urged graduates to ensure they supply information on their CVs which is 100 per cent accurate.
