Graduate roles may be created as most broadcasting companies are to increase IT spend

People looking for graduate opportunities in the media may find it easier to find employment after it was announced that most broadcasters are to increase their technology spend.

This statistic was announced on Thursday (March 31st) by technology research firm Ovum, who conducted a survey on 150 senior IT and technology executives at major broadcasters around the world.

The ensuing report revealed that 51 per cent of the respondents intend to increase the company's IT and production and distribution technology budgets.

Adrian Drury, the principal author of the report, said that the spending increase can largely be put down to increasing market confidence.

"Broadcast media markets are benefitting from a strengthening macroeconomic outlook and increased confidence, the near-term defensibility of broadcast advertising models, and opportunities for multi-screen services," he said.

"This is giving broadcasters the confidence to signal that they will be increasing their technology budgets sequentially over the next two years."

The report revealed that a fifth of respondents plan to increase their budgets more than six per cent, while 31 per cent plan to up their spend by between one and five per cent.

Analysts at Ovum conduct over 400,000 interviews per year to keep the company's advice up to date.
