Graduate retail jobs still on offer at Tesco
Monday, 06 July 2009
University leavers hoping to land a graduate job at a major retail firm may be pleased to know that supermarket giant Tesco has vowed to remain faithful to its plans for recruitment of degree-holders.
The firm, which already employs over 100 graduates each year, has defied reports claiming that graduate job vacancies are being reduced across the board by claiming it will continue to recruit.
Although many of the 15 graduate schemes through which it recruits university leavers are currently full for this year's cycle, positions are still available in its commercial division.
Hayley Tatum, UK operations personnel director at Tesco, said: "We have always identified the skills and opportunities graduates bring to Tesco and for this reason we have remained committed to our graduate recruitment process."
Tesco recently announced profits of £3.13 billion for 2008, which could lead to more jobs at the firm, including those for graduates, according to BDO Stoy Hayward head of retail Rupert Eastell.
