Graduate recruitment gives 500% return
Thursday, 29 October 2009
Employers who offer graduate jobs are seeing the money they spend in the process come back to them five-fold.
Illustrating the benefits that recruitment of graduate talent has for businesses in the UK, the government's Backing Young Britain campaign found that the cost of employing and training a university leaver is made back after 20 months.
After three years, every £1 spent through graduate recruitment schemes yields a return of £5.30, proving the worth of the initiatives even during a recession.
Firms such as BT have closed their graduate job schemes in recent months.
Dr Anthony Hesketh, the University of Lancaster representative who conducted the research, said: "We know that in these tough economic conditions businesses are considering the value of graduate recruitment; however, they remain a vital source of future capability for organisations."
Automotive firm Mercedes-Benz recently revealed that it would open up more graduate jobs in the Milton Keynes area in the next year thanks to extra funding from the government.
