Graduate placements important to 'keep skills updated'

Published: Wednesday, 19 January 2011   Category: All Graduate job news

Graduate placements are very useful for university leavers as it is always important for people to continually update skills set and make themselves desirable employees.

That is according to a marketing executive at the National Apprenticeship Service, a body which supports, funds and co-ordinates the delivery of Apprenticeships throughout England.

Josie Perry, NAS's marketing and communications director, made these comments after NAS launched an award ceremony in search of the country's top apprentices and employers.

"Skills need to be updated continually and an apprenticeship allows you to do this," said Ms Perry.

"Apprenticeships train people in the skills employers want and ensure the apprentices make a great contribution to the employer by providing their customers with loyal, motivated and responsive service," she added.

University-leavers who secure an apprenticeship or graduate placement often go on to be successful within the company.

Recent research from High Fliers suggests that many companies will not hire people if they have not at least completed graduate work experience with the company.
