Graduate opportunities grow within property sector

Published: Wednesday, 18 April 2012   Category: All Graduate Jobs News

It has emerged recently that many companies within the property and real estate industry are offering graduate opportunities. If you are looking for a position within this sector, why not identify the key skills which are likely to lead to success.

The property and real estate industry is very competitive nowadays and most employers won’t give you an opportunity unless you prove yourself to be ready for the job. Below are some of the qualities all candidates should possess.

Commercial awareness

Graduates should know about how wider business and economic conditions affect the property industry. The ideal applicant would also be aware of the needs of clients and how such things affect an employer’s ability to turn a profit. Basically, the more business orientated the employer sees you as being, the more valuable to their company you are likely to be.

Knowledge of issues affecting the industry

As well as commercial and business awareness, property recruiters might expect you to be up to speed on additional issues affecting the sector such as the National Property Planning Framework, latest mergers and acquisitions or the north/south division.

Communication skills and relationship building

A graduate job within the property sector will involve constantly interacting with people, including both clients and other employees. Having the interpersonal skills to relate to people from all walks of life will always be a key skill within this role.

More than academic

Possessing a strong CV in terms of qualifications does not hold as much weight as it used to. Employers will also consider other factors to determine whether or not you are right for a graduate opportunity. Try to expand your skills base by carrying out voluntary work or attending part time courses in other areas.

Have you ever considered a career in the property/real estate sector? Do you feel there are enough graduate opportunities in this particular area?
