Northern Ireland needs to attract high-calibre people to fill IT graduate jobs, it has been claimed.
Sir Reg Empey, employment and learning minister, called on young people in the country to consider study the subject to boost skill levels in the area, reports eGov Monitor.
He explained that IT is one of the most successful sectors in Northern Ireland and firms are still looking to expand.
Sir Reg said: "To sustain this growth companies need to be able to recruit high quality graduates in key subjects such as computer science and software engineering."
The IT sector in the country is a very exciting place to work, he added.
Last week, research by Hays found that people looking for graduate jobs in IT need to work on their interpersonal skills if they are to be successful.
It found that 94 per cent of directors believe that technical knowledge and experience are not enough on their own.
