Graduate jobs 'still available'
Wednesday, 09 September 2009
The Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services has urged this year's university leavers not to be put down by the lack of available jobs, as there are some out there.
Martin Pennington, director of the group, said that the recession has caused a drop in the number of graduate jobs being provided, but they have not all disappeared.
He said: "I know we are in the middle of a recession but it doesn't mean that all jobs and all employers have imploded overnight - there are still a lot of jobs out there, and the evidence is that if you've got the skills and the right approach you will be successful."
Graduate job hunters need to be convinced of themselves if they want to impress potential employers and panicking about the situation is not going to help, Mr Pennington continued.
People management recently reported that many major supermarkets are bucking the trend in terms of graduate recruitment, with university leavers preferring to take a job in the retail sector.
