Graduate jobs opportunities for business-minded in Carlisle

Published: Monday, 21 December 2009   Category: Creative Industries: arts and design

Graduate jobs for those leaving the University of Cumbria in the coming years may be easier to find if plans for a new student and arts village become reality, the News & Star reports.

Accommodation for 196 students will be available in Denton Holme in Carlisle, alongside 40 craft workshops to be used by graduates in early stages of setting up their businesses.

Some early objections revolve around providing graduates with space to advance their skills only to move onto better things in other cities and a lack of parking available at the site.

However, Labour MP Hugh McDevitt, who represents Denton Holme, is for the development of the scheme and the significant impact it could have.

According to the publication, he said: "I welcome this development. I don't look at this as a student community on its own. It will be integrated with the rest of Denton Holme."

Meanwhile, it was also recently reported that over 2,000 jobs, some of which could be filled by graduates, may be created in Carlisle in the future if it is successful in its bid to become the UK's City of Culture in 2013, according to the Cumberland News.ADNFCR-1068-ID-19524065-ADNFCR
