Graduate Job sector Reports
The graduate jobs market seems to be holding up with the unemployment rate among students at its lowest for five years, new figures show.
Data released by the Higher Education Statistics Agency shows that only 5.6 per cent of graduates were out of work six months after completing their studies.
It also found that students with the best grades are least likely to end up unemployed.
According to Bill Rammell, higher education minister, the survey highlights the value of getting a degree.
He said: "These latest figures show that graduate job prospects continue to improve as more and more employers require the wide range of skills that graduates bring to their business."
Those who obtain a degree can expect to earn more than £100,000 extra over their lifetime compared to those who do not, he added.
In July, the Association of Graduate Recruiters Graduate Recruitment Summer Review found that there had been an 11.7 per cent increase in the number of graduate job vacancies when compared to last year.
