Graduate jobs may be created in the ecommerce industry, after a retail organisation revealed that online shopping is growing increasingly popular.
However, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) also said that ecommerce accounts for a relatively small percentage of retail spend.
Sarah Cordey, a spokeswoman for the organisation, said that information available online makes it easier for consumers to compare prices.
She said: "What we're increasingly seeing is both stores and consumers making use of both online services and high street services.
"Online information makes it easier for consumers, for example, to compare prices, but some shoppers will still then choose to go into a store to make their purchase in person and speak to a sales assistant."
According to recent research from Comet, over 84 per cent of consumers search online for discounts and deals while around 58 per cent of consumers shop online for clothes.
The BRC is a trade association that represents the whole range of retailers, from multinationals to independent shops, including online retailers.
