All Graduate job news
Although graduate job hunters may benefit from a greater availability of jobs in 2010, they may not have it any easier than their superiors last year as many positions may have already been filled.
The High Fliers Research report looking into the graduate recruitment prospects of Britain's leading 100 employers noted that 11.8 more university leavers are to be hired this year compared to 2009.
However, it is also revealed that many of these positions may have already been filled by graduate job hunters from last year who saw their previous applications deferred or have already enjoyed work experience at the firms.
Martin Birchall, managing director of High Fliers Research, said: "After two years of swingeing cuts in graduate recruitment, it's very encouraging that Britain's best-known and most sought-after employers are stepping up their entry-level vacancies for 2010.
"But students leaving university this summer will be disappointed to find that many of these new positions have already been filled by graduates from the 'Class of 2009' who had job offers postponed last year."
Another recent report from the Association of Graduate Recruiters discovered that each vacancy in the UK attracts more applications from graduates than in other countries worldwide.
