The ecommerce sector is set for massive growth, according to a retail expert, boosting graduates' job hopes in that area.
David Smith, director of operations at the Interactive Media in Retail Group, made the comments in reaction to a study which revealed that the UK market was responsible for one third of all European online sales in 2009.
Mr Smith predicted that the number of online sales will grow enormously in the next 20 years, which could open up a number of employment opportunities.
He said: "By 2020 we are going to have a situation where 90 per cent of retailing is going to be influenced by what at the moment you would call 'online'.
"That could be through mobile applications, it could be through websites, PCs and laptops or it could be through other devices in the home. Obviously with the launch of the iPad, that is just going to help promote that."
The report, conducted by the Centre for Retail Research, also showed that UK shoppers spent £38 billion online last year, at an average of £1,102 per consumer.
