Graduate job-hunters are using professional recruitment help 'to get the edge'

Published: Monday, 04 April 2011   Category: Career Advice

More university-leavers are looking for professional help when looking for graduate opportunities to overcome the increased competition for jobs due to the economic downturn.

That is according to Peter Panayotou, senior consultant at the CV advice firm The Write Stuff, who said that professional help was the first port of call for people looking to stand out from the crowd.

"[It's] certainly something that I've been aware of since we had this downturn," he said.

"A lot of people are coming to me that would normally have attempted to do their CV themselves but have decided that, in order to get the edge, they need to do everything they possibly can."

Most people looking for graduate vacancies who are about to leave university can use the professional help given by in-house careers guidance departments.

Recent research by thinktank New Economics Foundation (NEF) found that the incoming public sector cuts will leave an employment shortfall of about 520,000.
