While media reports paint a picture of widespread unemployment among this year's university leavers, one former student has landed a graduate job in the dental industry.
Graduating from Newcastle's Dental College, 23-year-old Amanda Shannon will now begin work at the Cosmetic Dental Clinic in the city, where she will practice the skills obtained during her three-year degree course.
The firm believes that demand for its services will pick up in the near future thanks to a recovery of the UK economy and Ms Shannon will help it face the challenges of increased opportunities for turnover.
Dr Darren Cannell, co-founder of The Cosmetic Dental Clinic, told the news provider: "Her skills will be of great use to us, as we have experienced a period of sustained growth and require a skilled therapist to help us to provide the highest standards of care to our patients."
The Morgan McKinley employment monitor recently showed that October saw a 15 per cent rise in potential London graduate jobs in finance, compared to the previous month.
