An expert has told university leavers worrying about the dearth of graduate jobs available to them in the finance sector that employers are still looking to fill positions.
Despite media reports portraying the graduate jobs market as a bleak affair for 2009 higher education leavers, Aidan Hetherington, careers and corporate relations officer at the University of Edinburgh's business school, insists that major banks in Scotland are still offering employment.
Writing for eFinancialCareers.co.uk, the expert said that the structure of the financial industry in Scotland is different and the country can offer more ethical graduate jobs than London's banking district - which is widely blamed for the economic collapse.
He told the news provider: "Rather than being inundated with applications - as one would expect - HR departments are reporting back to university careers services that they are disappointed by a fall in the number of students applying for their graduate schemes."
Students currently looking for graduate jobs are questioning the morality of taking a banking job in London, the Association of Schools and College Leaders recently said.
