Graduate engineers get boost as 'manufacturing recovery gaining momentum'

Published: Friday, 14 January 2011   Category: Science, Engineering and IT

University-leavers looking for jobs as a graduate engineer will be cheered to hear the chief economist from a leading business organisation says that the manufacturing sector is recovering.

Last week, the Office of National Statistics announced that the UK, total manufacturing output increased by 5.6 per cent in November 2010 compared to the same month the year before.

The new information has been greeted with cautious optimism by David Kern, who is chief economist at the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).

"These figures provide further confirmation that the manufacturing recovery is gathering momentum and support the positive message given earlier this week in our quarterly survey," he said.

"We are now seeing evidence that the economy is being rebalanced, but it still faces many risks in the coming months."

The BCC released its quarterly survey on January 11th and suggested - among other things - that the private sector can drive UK growth in 2011.
