Graduate employment prospects up, report suggests

The number of graduate opportunities opening up across the UK is set to keep on growing over the coming months, a newly-released report suggests.

Despite the fact that an air of uncertainly still surrounds the British economy, research carried out for the annual XpertHR graduate survey found that confidence is on the rise among employers.

Indeed, around three in four of those companies polled for the report were found to be actively working to fill graduate jobs or wider graduate schemes, while 82 per cent predicted they will be doing so over the course of the next year.

At the same time, however, the research also found that competition for graduate jobs will be as strong as ever, though high-quality candidates are likely to stand out from the crowd as employers report a rise in under-skilled applicants.

Commenting on the shortage of suitable candidates, report author Rachel Stuff was quoted by Personnel Today as explaining: "The large pools of potential graduate recruits that employers are now fishing in do not necessarily make it easier to catch high-quality trainees."

This comes soon after the same organisation reported that professionals working in the HR sector are benefitting from steady rises in levels of pay and bonuses.
