Creative Industries: arts and design
Alan Clarke is currently a design student at University College Falmouth, but he will soon be looking for a graduate job in his field of choice and he has offered some advice for those in the same boat.
In an interview with Digital Arts, Mr Clarke said that he anticipates strong competition in the graduate jobs market and believes that a proactive approach is a key factor in being successful.
The graduate has designed some posters for the upcoming London 2012 Olympics and hopes to show his portfolio to employers in London, which he says seems to have the best opportunities for design jobs.
He told graduates via the news provider: "Get in touch with companies you like, writing letters and emails, placements are very useful. Going in for competitions gets you industry recognition."
Textiles design graduate Hayley Scanlan recently had one of her white leather jackets bought by fashion icon Erin O'Connor at her end of year show at Dundee University.
