The best people to recruit teachers are governors and head teachers with experience of the real world, according to the Campaign for Real Education (CRE).
People looking for graduate vacancies in teaching may find themselves chosen by these people, but the CRE also recommended that more power should go to parents.
However, Nick Seaton, spokesman for the Campaign for Real Education, said that children may not be the best people to pick teachers.
He said: "It is a very appealing idea, but I don't think children have the knowledge or experience to be able to do that. Children need good teachers, but the best people to get that are head teachers and school governors with experience of the real world."
Mr Seaton noted, however, that involving parents in the decision-making process would be a "great step forward".
Recent research released by the Children's Commissioner for England found that while around 18 per cent of children had been involved in recruiting teachers, a clear majority (65 per cent) would like to do so in the future.
