Glamorgan Graduate lands dream job with stars of Strictly Come Dancing

Published: Tuesday, 22 December 2015   Category: All Graduate Jobs News

Like many, Nicola Robertson, is a big fan of Strictly Come Dancing – the only difference being, she gets to work with them up close and personal as opposed to solely watching them on TV!

The lucky graduate, who qualified from Glamorgan University, is working alongside the likes of Georgia May Foote, Kate Derham and Anton du Beke to name just a few of the admired acts on this celebrated show.

The 29-year-old Newark-born dancing fanatic studied Drama, Theatre and Media at University. During her course, she began to steer her studies towards the glamour and glitz of the media industry. Just three years later, she was offered a job on one of the most renowned UK shows on television.

Asides from her qualifications and training, she believes the reason she was offered this exciting role was down to her passion and ambition. All of her lecturers describe her as a “real grafter”.

“There are five production co-ordinators on the show, four of us look after the couples and when the celebrities were revealed they were divided between us,” explained Nicola.

“Among mine were Anton du Beke and his partner Katie Derham and Giovanni Pernice and Georgia May Foote, both of whom have made it through to the final.”

Although her stint on Strictly as a production coordinator is coming to an end, her time spent on the show has earned her a great deal of experience in the media industry.

The programme is one of the most challenging yet rewarding shows to be a part of. Fortunately, Nicola worked on a number of “full on” projects whilst studying, including a live radio project, which went towards part of her degree. It was headed by senior lecturer in Media and Journalism, Julie Kissick, who describes Nicola as a “go-getter”.

“Nicola’s a real grafter, and quietly determined – a great example of what a creative industries student can achieve with the right support behind them and the range of skills our courses offer,” she said.
