Gap years can 'add value to a CV'

Published: Monday, 18 April 2011   Category: All Graduate job news

People set to leave university this summer could improve their job prospects while travelling, after it was revealed that a post-university gap year can "add value to [a] CV".

That is according to Gapyear.com, a company which advises people taking extended periods of travel between education, or after university.

Some university-leavers may find it difficult to find graduate opportunities straight out of university. These people may wish to travel for a year and work while abroad.

Tom Griffiths, founder of Gapyear.com, suggested that university-leavers could work in Australia for some time, before returning to the United Kingdom with a boosted CV.

"If you are unable to find work in the UK, Australia has jobs, particularly on the West Coast and with the exchange rate, these jobs are reasonably well paid," he said.

"You can do something that is going to add value to your CV and make you more employable by taking a gap year to work overseas."
