Financial service graduate opportunities still available

Published: Thursday, 18 November 2010   Category: All Graduate job news | Banking and Finance

Finding graduate opportunities in the financial services sector is proving difficult for some, but there are openings available, it has been shown.

According to figures from Powerchex, investment banks made 33 per cent more job offers in October than the previous month.

Stockbrokers and IT contractors working within financial services also showed month-on-month increases of 20 per cent and 17 per cent respectively.

It shows that there may still be graduate schemes available in the industry, despite insurance firms taking on three per cent less staff and hedge fund recruitment being down 18 per cent.

While the market may not be burgeoning, Powerchex managing director Alexandra Kelly explained that things are much better than they were in 2009.

"If we compare the October figures with the corresponding month last year, we see that recruitment activity is up by 20 per cent, and that is despite the declines of the last three months," she said.
