FDM Group to double UK graduate scheme intake

Published: Tuesday, 31 August 2010   Category: Science, Engineering and IT

A prominent IT training and services provider is set to double the number of graduate placements it offers this year, it emerged today (August 31st).

FDM Group recruited 245 graduates into its FDM Academy last year but is now planning to take on about 500 in 2010 as part of an all-year-round programme.

Marketing manager Nabila Salem explained in an interview with ComputerWorld UK that the decision was motivated by an increase in demand from its clients.

"The target for intake was 400 and has gone up to 500 this year," she told the news provider.

"Last year we gained over 20 new clients, so demand [for IT consultants] is tremendously high at the moment. We have had 16,000 applications so far and we need more."

Ms Salem also claimed that FMD's recruitment drive in the UK this year is two-and-a-half times larger than IBM's and 25 times bigger than Microsoft's.

Meanwhile, BBC News reported last week that a number of Britons are heading to China to find graduate jobs due to a lack of opportunities closer to home.
