Ernst & Young 'witnessing record demand' for 2011 graduate placements

A leading accountancy firm has revealed that it has witnessed huge interest in its next graduate scheme.

Ernst & Young announced that it has already received more than 4,500 applications for the 700 places being offered as part of its 2011 graduate training programme, HR Magazine reports.

That figure is more than double the volume of candidates expressing their interest last year, while the company has seen attendance at its campus recruitment events surge by 110 per cent.

Stephen Isherwood, head of graduate recruitment at Ernst & Young, admitted that demand has "sky-rocketed" in the past two months.

"We run campus recruitment events across many of the UK's leading universities, talking to students about pursuing a career in professional services, and this year we've had to put on additional events to cope with the level of demand," he told the news provider.

Mr Isherwood added that final-year students should be applying for positions "sooner rather than later" in order to avoid disappointment.

Ernst & Young is regarded as one of the 'Big Four' accountancy firms, alongside PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte and KPMG.
