Ensure your CV has the 'three Ps' to bag top graduate vacancies

Published: Thursday, 19 May 2011   Category: Career Advice

With one in five graduates currently unemployed and a new batch of students coming out of university this summer, Chris Rea from Graduate Prospects offers some practical CV advice to help those looking for their first job.

Mr Rea, who is employer business manager at the graduate advice firm, advises using the 'three Ps' for a CV which will bag the top graduate vacancies.

"The CV needs to be punchy; it needs to have immediate impact and needs to be clear, precise; the information needs to be crystal clear and not rambling, and it needs to be pertinent; pertinent to the job applied for, pertinent to the organisation," he said.

He also advises that basic mistakes such as spellings and grammar can prevent a CV from ever going past the first selection stage.

A study carried out by The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) recently found that 20 per cent of graduates are currently unemployed and up to 42 per cent of students this summer will enter a job where a degree is unnecessary.
