Engineering sector seeking skilled graduates

Published: Monday, 15 December 2008   Category: Science, IT and Engineering

Employers in the engineering sector are increasingly looking for multi-skilled candidate to fill graduate jobs, it has been claimed.

Speaking to the Engineer, Sir Anthony Cleaver, Chairman of the Engineering and Technology Board (ETB), suggested that those with a variety of abilities were best placed to secure training roles in engineering.

He claimed that employers are becoming increasingly demanding in terms of the abilities applicants have.

"It's not a criticism of them or of the work the graduates have put in, but they want more in terms of teamworking, communication skills, project management and entrepreneurship," he commented.

Those interested in engineering may be interested to learn that the ETB is staging a three-day Big Bang event in March to advertise the sector to young people.

According to the ETB, it seeks to promote the art and science of engineering and advancing education in engineering and technology.

The ETB partners business and industry, government and the wider science and technology community to achieve these goals.
